Andrew Johnson – Candidate for Justice 1st Court of Appeals Place 6

Andrew is a proud Texas lawyer, who has practiced appellate law across the state, from El Paso to Beaumont, Corpus Christi to Amarillo, and, of course, in the Houston Courts of Appeals.

Andrew began his career as a law clerk for the Honorable George C. Hanks, Jr., who was then Justice on the First Court of Appeals, Place 6.  Andrew also spent over four years working as a staff attorney on the Fourteenth Court of Appeals in Houston.  During his tenure on the Houston Courts of Appeals, Andrew performed exhaustive research into complex civil and criminal issues and drafted numerous proposed opinions.  Andrew enjoyed discussing how to resolve legal issues with the Justices and fellow court lawyers, working together to arrive at the proper, law-based result.

In 2013, Andrew took and passed the notoriously difficult exam to become Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.  He then joined Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons, L.L.P., working as an appellate specialist on a wide array of cases.  Now in his tenth year at Thompson Coe, Andrew is a partner and vice-chair of the firm’s appellate section.  In this role, Andrew has won dozens of appellate matters for his clients.

Outside of private practice, Andrew has been a council member for the State Bar of Texas Appellate Section, co-chair of the Appellate Section’s Judicial and Section History Committee, and president of the Thomas More Society of Galveston-Houston.

Andrew is a life-long Republican.  He and his wife and college-sweetheart, Kristen, are the proud parents of eight children.  The family resides in Kingwood and is active at St. Martha Catholic Church.
