Many of you may remember me as the former Judge of Harris County Civil Court at Law 2, where I served from 2007 -2012. Prior to becoming a judge, I worked as an operational director for Paul Bettencourt at the Harris County Tax Office, and as his legal counsel during my tenure at the Harris County Attorney’s office. (1998-2006). I opened my own law firm in 2013, Lucci Smith Law, PLLC.
It was a great privilege serving the citizens of Harris County as an attorney and a judge. I am proud of my accomplishments and will bring the same energy and dedication to the office of Harris County Attorney as I did my prior service to Harris County and my law practice.
I offer the experience and proven leadership needed to help the residents of Harris County as your County Attorney. Take a moment to look around the website and get to know me. I am confident that you will find the site informative.
“The Texas Supreme Court has issued a stay on Uplift Harris, the controversial handout of taxpayer’s money to a small number of people. This follows both a trial and appellate court’s refusal to grant an injunction based on the constitutionality of the handout program. Part of the controversy arises from accusations including race baiting.
This is not a race issue-it’s a constitutional issue. This program does not offer assistance to all people of a certain income level, but only a select few. On its face, as Attorney General Paxton made clear, the program is unconstitutional and fails to serve a public purpose. The court should look only to the legal issues–not race issues-to resolve the legal challenge. The officeholders who concocted this scheme should not rely on the fact that others have enacted similar programs. As my mother used to say, ‘Just because your friends jump off a cliff, doesn’t mean you should!’
Harris County needs to start standing on solid ground again and avoid the pitfalls of woke agendas and handouts. My suggestion: Use those millions of dollars to create a focused job training program that will not discriminate- benefitting all Harris County residents.”
