Kim Ogg Joins ‘Democrats for Cruz’ Coalition, Endorses Senator’s Re-election

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg has become the latest Democrat to cross over and endorse Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz for re-election.

During a joint appearance with Cruz on Fox News’ Hannity Tuesday evening, Ogg expressed concerns over the rise in violent crimes committed by illegal aliens, including the brutal murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray.

“While Jocelyn Nungaray is the reason that Ted Cruz and I started working together, she’s not the only reason that I support the senator,” said Ogg. “We’ve had a number of murders committed by undocumented illegal aliens, and as a law enforcement official, the top one in the third biggest county in the country, it’s really important to stop the violence.”

Ogg praised Cruz for introducing the “Justice for Jocelyn” measure, which would have kept the suspects in Nungaray’s case in custody if it had been law at the time.

“As the top law enforcement official, I just can’t stand by and not fight back,” Ogg said. “It’s bigger than partisanship, and our problems can be solved. We just have to reach across the aisle and work together.”

Cruz, facing off against Democrat U.S. Rep. Colin Allred in November, welcomed Ogg’s endorsement, stating that it demonstrates the bipartisan nature of the issues they are addressing.

“My election in Texas is between an open borders, abolish the police, Democrat and standing up for law and order,” said Cruz.

“We want to be safe, and our government has an obligation to keep us safe,” added Ogg.

Ogg was defeated in the Democrat primary by George Soros-backed challenger Sean Teare in March.

That same month, Cruz’s campaign announced the launch of “Democrats for Cruz,” a coalition to get Democrats to cross party lines and re-elect him into office.
