Brad Hart grew up in the East Texas town of Athens where he worked as an intern in the Henderson County District Attorney’s office serving as the County’s Teen Court Administrator after graduating from Baylor University in 1993.
While in law school at South Texas College of Law, he worked with the Houston Bar Association Juvenile Justice Mock Trial Program and was a volunteer child advocate with Child Advocates, Inc.
Hart was hired by Harris County District Attorney Johnny Holmes as a prosecutor upon passing the bar exam. He served in several areas with the Harris County District Attorney’s office, including Felony District Court Chief, Misdemeanor Division Deputy Chief, Justice Court Section Chief, Family Violence Division, Crimes Against Children Division and the Organized Crime Unit in addition to serving in several felony courts.
As a prosecutor, Hart handled thousands of cases — the majority being felony cases. A notable case for Hart was securing a conviction of a man who shot a Houston Police Officer in the face. He tried over 100 jury trials, including securing trial convictions in six capital murder cases. For his work, the Texas Narcotics Officers Association named Hart “Prosecutor of the Year”.
In 2013, Governor Rick Perry appointed Hart as Judge of the 230th Criminal District Court where he won election as Judge of that court in 2014 to serve a full term. As Judge, Hart was the consistent preferred candidate for Judge with his peers in the Houston Bar Association Preference Polls and scored in the top of his judicial peer class in Houston Bar Association Qualification Polls, including receiving higher scores than the incumbent Judge of the 230th District Court.
While Judge of the 230th District Court, Hart was named “Judge of the Year” by the Texas Gang Investigators Association (TGIA). TGIA recognizes one Judge each year for his or her outstanding contributions in the battle against gangs and organized crime.
Hart currently serves as Division Chief with the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office after being swept out in his 2018 re-election bid in the Democrat straight-party wave that turned all county benches and offices, including County Judge, blue that year.
It is time to return a Judge to this bench who respects the law, respects the defendant’s rights, respects victims in the courtroom and also respects the safety of the community when it comes to those individuals who threaten it.
