Katy Boatman – Candidate for Justice 14th Court of Appeals Place 6

Experience and credentials matter. Katy is board certified in civil appellate law and has specialized in appellate work for her entire career, practicing before the First and Fourteenth Courts of Appeals countless times. That is why Katy Boatman is seeking a seat on the Fourteenth Court of Appeals.

Katy is a native Texan who was educated in Texas. She graduated with honors from Texas A & M University and Baylor Law School, where she served as executive editor of the Baylor Law Review. She clerked for Justice Dale Wainwright of the Texas Supreme Court and Judge Jennifer Elrod of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. She has spent her career since then as an appellate specialist at Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, a well-respected national law firm founded in Texas.

Katy has been recognized as one of the best lawyers in the country. Katy has also been recognized for several years by Texas Lawyer as a Rising Star in appellate law, and she was named one of Houston Business Journal’s 40 Under 40. Katy was also the sole winner of the National Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year, as well as the Outstanding Young Lawyer of Texas and of Houston. She is the only lawyer from Houston ever to win all three of those awards.

Katy has also devoted extensive energy to serving the bar and her community.  Katy served for four years on the Board of Directors of the Texas Young Lawyers Association. She was elected by her peers because of her strong commitment to the legal profession.  She has been an active member and on the board of The Federalist Society.  She serves her community through The Children’s Fund, Yellowstone Academy, The Women’s Home, and many other groups.

Katy and her husband, Dr. Logan Boatman, are the parents of three young children. Logan is a radiologist specializing in the detection of breast cancer, with an active medical practice at Houston Methodist.  The Boatmans worship at Christ Presbyterian Church and enjoy spending time with their three children, cooking at home, and biking.
